Practical information
Each portrait is painted entirely by hand using watercolors on high-quality, acid-free 300 g/m² 100% cotton paper. I work from photographs and capture not only the likeness, but above all the atmosphere, interaction, and aura of the moment.
You can follow my process more closely via my Instagram profile. This includes videos of the creation of a painting, examples, and projects I am currently working on.

Color palette
After a great deal of research and experimentation, I’ve settled on a fixed base palette for my skin tones. I developed this entirely intuitively. I haven’t received any formal training to become a painter. I found my way by studying existing art, watching videos about color pigments and testing them out.
Some common colors are missing from my palette and I’ve also chosen a few colors that other portrait painters rarely or never use. In hindsight, my basic palette closely resembles that of the “old masters” to which I’ve added color for temperature and greater depth.
In addition to technique and composition, a color palette determines the mood and feeling of a work. I also notice that it gives my paintings a distinct identity. This palette determines the warmth and atmosphere you see in every portrait; it makes it a FloraRoos.

Painting process
I will get to work for you and usually give you a heads-up the day before I start to double-check. I will also ask whether you would like to be surprised or would like to see an update along the way.
I will send you a photo of the work in progress if you wish. It may look very different from what you might expect, but it will give you an insight into the creative process (trust the journey!)
Once it's finished, I will send you a photo of the result if requested.
Finalization and shipping
The painting is treated with a product to fix the pigment
UV varnish is applied
A layer of wax is gently rubbed onto the paper to ensure that moisture has little to no effect on the work.
The painting is carefully packaged.
Off it goes to the parcel service, and we wait for it to arrive at your doorstep. I always send items in a way that ensures the contents are insured and a signature is required.
